Staff Accountant

Yonkers, NY

Salary: $60-70k/annually 

In Office - Located in the Downtown Yonkers. Steps away from the Waterfront, Metro North, and Getty Square.

The Staff Accountant will be an integral part of the accounting team, reporting directly to the Controller. This role will be responsible for key general accounting functions such as account analysis, general ledger maintenance, cash reconciliations, budget analysis, and unit of service reconciliations. In addition, the Staff Accountant will gain experience in and assist with Medicaid billing operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain financial and business transactions, applying accounting principles, including work that may be analytical, evaluative, and advisory in nature and that requires an understanding of both accounting theory and practice.
  • General ledger reconciliation and analysis.
  • Review of all agency disbursements, including ensuring accurate account coding.
  • Researching of account budget variances.
  • Work with and learn the Medicaid billing operations.
  • Propose general journal entries for review by the Controller and/or CFO.
  • Assure standard accounting procedures are adhered to and supervise the maintenance of the accounting and voucher files.
  • Working with the Fundraising operations to insure proper recording of activities.
  • Assist auditors in performance of annual audit and preparation of audit schedules
  • General account analysis to track trends monthly
  • Preparation of schedules related to the State CFR report 
  • Assist management with regulators and auditors with inquiries.  
  • Learn and maintain strong working knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations and procedures and strong working relationships with appropriate OPWDD staff.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external agency departments to ensure quality services and appropriate reimbursement for the agency.
  • Completion of other tasks as requested

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Nonprofit Business Management
  • 0–2 years of accounting experience (Recent grads welcome to apply!)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with accounting systems preferred
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to travel between locations as needed
  • Successful completion of criminal background history and fingerprint examination.
