Behavior Intervention Specialists

Salary: $75,600 annually

Location: Westchester & Bronx

Schedule: Monday-Friday 9am-5pm

The Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS) is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) and training Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) in effective, proactive behavioral techniques. This role includes leading trainings, group activities, and modeling positive behavioral interventions across SCFU locations in the Bronx and Westchester County. You will be working with adults with autism in a residential/program setting. 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Implement and supervise Behavioral Support Plans (BSPs) and Monitoring Plans as needed.
  • Ensure effective communication regarding behavioral occurrences with support staff and advocates.
  • Lead 1:1 and group sessions, including educational workshops on self-advocacy, sexuality, and other topics.
  • Accurately collect and analyze behavioral data, updating plans monthly to ensure goal progress.
  • Provide direct instruction to support goal attainment and facilitate informed consents for participants.
  • Observe and support DSPs with plan implementation, offering feedback and maintaining an environment conducive to positive learning.
  • Participate in Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings, ensuring compliance with OPWDD regulations and clinical documentation.
  • Track document/report due dates and maintain paperwork in accordance with NYS (OPWDD) standards.
  • Obtain SCIP-R instructor certification to train staff in behavioral intervention techniques.

Training and Support Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Functional Behavior Analyses (FBA) and record relevant behavioral observations.
  • Lead trainings on ABA principles and other skills needed for supporting individuals with autism.
  • Collaborate with program supervisors, assist with staff disciplinary actions as needed, and ensure clear communication on behavioral issues.
  • Serve as an advocate for program improvement, providing a respectful and supportive environment for individuals and their families.

Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in one of the following human services fields (including, but not limited to: sociology, special education, rehabilitation, counseling, or psychology). (Master's degree, preferred, with specials consideration given to those possessing or in coursework for BCBA)
  •  1-2 years’ experience and training in applied behavior analysis (ABA) strategies and implementing behavioral supports for people with autism.
  • Valid NY Driver’s license is required
