DSP Medical Coordinator

Bronx, NY

Salary: 19.85 per hour with full benefits

Shift: Monday to Friday 7am-3pm

Location: North Riverdale

The Medical Coordinator will be working in 2 residential group homes located in North Riverdale providing services to people with Autism. 

You will perform a wide range of tasks including coordinating and scheduling medical appointments and assisting with difficult behaviors and daily living activities. If you are an experienced Direct Support Professional looking for career advancement, this may be the position for you!

Responsibilities of a Medical Coordinator include the following:

  • Schedule medical, dental, podiatry, psychiatric, and any and all clinical appointments. 
  • Ensures results of visits, lab work, etc. are appropriately documented and filed.
  • Maintain impeccable organization and communication with residential and clinical departments.
  • Daily use of Microsoft Outlook email: proper email communication, use of email calendar, scanning, saving, and sending documents.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments.
  • Assists individuals in achieving more independence in administration of medications; teaches use of skin care lotions, topical ointments, eye and ear drops and assists in their use as needed.
  • Ensure that all prescribed medication stock is identified, maintained and stored properly in consultation with the nurse.
  • Takes, records, reports temperatures, blood pressures, pulse rate, weight, and other significant symptoms/health-related occurrences.
  • Teaches and reinforces accepted infection control and personal grooming techniques; assists in bathing, dental care, hair and nail care, personal hygiene, toileting, incontinence care, menstrual care, and grooming routines as necessary.
  • Teaches and assists individuals in dressing, clothing selection, storage, laundering and repair of clothing and accessories; helps them to shop for clothing.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information.

Requirements:

  • Valid Driver's License and High School Diploma/GED.
  • Must be able to attend orientation before starting official shift. This paid training is located at our main office in the Bronx.
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with individuals with special needs.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Comfortable with daily use of technology (Microsoft Office: Word, excel, email, basic data entry, scanning)
  • AMAP, SCIP, CPR and First Aide certification and maintenance of same, required.
  • Demonstrated competency in written, verbal and computational skills to document records in accordance with program and OPWDD mandates.
